Some bad news about John Krasinski as Reed Richards in ‘Multiverse of Madness’ – Forbes

This post was republished on 27.6.

Although it leaked ahead of time, fans were thrilled to see former Quiet Place director John Krasinski, who has become an Office star, appear as Reed Richards, aka Mr. Fantastic in Dr. Strange in the multiverse of madness.

Fans have long dreamed of getting Krasinski involved in the role (and sometimes his real wife Emily Blunt as Sue Storm), and seeing him on screen, at least just briefly before Wanda ripped him off like pasta, was cool.

However, there is the film Fantastic Four coming to MCU, and then the question arises whether Krasinski will be more than just a cameo and eventually get a role in the official film Fantastic Four in the “real” universe. Good, according to the commentary path o Multiverse of Madness by director Sam Raimi, it certainly doesn’t sound like a plan:

“It’s so funny that Kevin [Feige] John threw [Krasinski] because fans dreamed of who would be the perfect Reed Richards. And since this is an alternate universe, I think Kevin said, ‘Let’s make that dream come true.’ I always really enjoyed all his performances. ‘”

So, this was Kevin Feige’s invitation to play Krasinski, but it seems that he was like Reed contingent about this being an alternate universe, meaning it doesn’t really count, and can only be a fun, one-time cameo. That would not indicate a bigger plan for this to be the introduction of Reed Krasinski for the independent film Fantastic Four.

It’s not impossible, of course. Plans can change and I wonder if Kevin Feige is somehow trapped here now. If someone else is chosen for the movie Fantastic Four as Reed Richards, then you will have millions of fans who will say “wait, why not John Krasinski?” since the door is now open. Another rumor was that Andrew Lincoln of The Walking Dead had joined the MCU in some capacity, and many speculated he it could be Reed Richards of MCU. But again, I think fans will find it hard to accept any option other than Krasinski’s after Multiverse of Madness.

In the end, I think she will end up with him in the role, despite the fact that it was a fantasy cast of “alternative universe” fans that Kevin Feige wanted to indulge in. Once that possibility is realized, it will be difficult to withdraw from it. I would expect to hear more about the actual casting of Fantastic Four soon.

Update (27.6.):

It seems worth reconsidering Krasinski’s thinking about role-playing in his own words, ever since the idea was first tossed around before this was ever supposed to be a multiverse of madness, and people were still focused on the Fantastic Four’s main film. That’s after the internet went crazy for the team, and Krasinski thought maybe it was a mistake to join the idea so publicly and strongly:

“I actually felt stupid. I wanted to email Kevin Feige and say, ‘Sorry, man. I didn’t want to put pressure on you. You are a man. ‘ I think I felt, like I was sometimes trying to recalculate how much I was talking about certain things. And then you get old and you just say, ‘I don’t know, I’ll be honest.’ And my honest answer was, ‘Damn, yes. I would play Mr. Fantastic. ‘ And then the people said, ‘Oh my God.’ And I didn’t know it was going to be headlines. I thought it would be just the eighth question in that interview. But it’s true. “

But that fan campaign is the reason why he was chosen for Multiverse in the first place. I’m not sure he talked about continuing to play the role now, probably hiding from the interview since it first happened, but (old) Fantastic Four writer / Moon Knight Jeremy Slater was asked about Krasinski continuing:

“I think Krasinski is a really cool choice if it’s the one they go with for whoever is presented with the right version of Reed,” Slater said. “I think it would be a great choice. We couldn’t see him doing a lot of fun stuff there – [the Scarlet Witch vs. the Illuminati] it was much more of an introduction and a kind of glorified cameo. “

As always, I say bring it back. He showed that he could put on a suit and play a role once, give him the full feature to solidify the idea that maybe, just maybe, the fans were right.
