Netflix’s family show of weird superheroes Umbrella Academy just released its third season a few days ago, but showrunner and creator Steve Blackman says the end of the series is in sight … assuming Netflix allows Umbrella Academy come out on their own terms, instead of pointlessly canceling it earlier to save money (as if Netflix would ever be so cruel). Talking to The WrapBlackman said he has a hypothetical fourth season planned – Netflix has yet to be officially picked up for another season – and after that “he’s not sure where to go.”

“I think if we get to the fourth season,” he said The Wrap, “It would be a great ending to the competition. I’m not saying I couldn’t do it anymore, but you know, I think it would be very satisfying for the audience, four seasons. ” Blackman has obviously put Netflix on the plan for a potential fourth season, so the streaming service knows that’s what he wants for the series and that he’s charted that, but again, there’s no word on whether Netflix wants a fourth season or Netflix wants morewhich would force Blackman to return to drawing future stories about the Hargreeves family (the Netflix series already mostly covered everything from the original comics of Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá).

As for what will happen in season four, Blackman has shared some details about the basic concept of the season — although, of course, it includes spoilers for the end of season three (you can see them at The Wrap). Umbrella Academywho it started a little rough and feeling like less than the sum of its parts, it really found its groove in the second and third seasons that embraced the wacky super-family dynamic. It stars Elliot Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman and Robert Sheehan.
