Gourmet: Apple Watch Series 8 chip has the same specifications as the Series 6, Apple Watch SE 2 to stick to current size – 9to5Mac

Mark Gurman is back with more information on the upcoming Apple Watch Series 8 and the second generation Apple Watch SE. In his On bulletin,, BloombergThe journalist talks about what to expect from these watches coming later this year.

Following previous reports that Apple would bring a faster S8 chip for the Apple Watch Series 8, Gurman says he was told that “the s8 chip will have the same specifications as the S7”. But here’s the catch: The S7 chip is the same as the S6, which was introduced with the 2020 Apple Watch Series 6.

In addition, the Apple Watch Series 8 will be as fast as the Apple Watch Series 7 and Apple Watch Series 6. For next year’s model, Gurman says the watch will get a “brand new processor”.

Speaking of the Apple Watch SE 2, it won’t have the larger screen introduced with the Apple Watch Series 7. He writes:

The SE will stick to the screen size of the current model, instead of switching to the larger size of the Series 7. But it may get the same S8 chip as the Series 8, an upgrade over the S5 in the current SE from 2020.

Last but not least, Mark Gurman speculates about what will happen to the Apple Watch Series 3:

The software update abolishes support for the Apple Watch Series 3, so I would finally expect that model to be discontinued in the fall. The current SE could slip into that Series 3 price point, and the new SE would become a mid-range option.

Although Gurman does not mention this in the newsletter, he previously reported that the Apple Watch Series 8 is expected to feature at least new body temperature sensor.

In April, analyst Ming-CHi Kuo doubled her body temperature sensor. He said:

“I believe the Apple Watch Series 8 in 2H22 could measure body temperature if the algorithm can meet Apple’s high demands before mass production.”

Last but not least, Gurman said earlier that Apple could also introduce an extreme sports variation of the Apple Watch in 2022. 9do5Mac here it is reported how watchOS 9 could tease this product.
