Prince Charles accepted a suitcase with one million euros from the Sheikh of Qatar, reports the Sunday Times – CNN

According to the Sunday Times, the € 1 million cash box was one of three lots of cash he personally received, worth a total of € 3 million, from former Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani between 2011 and 2015. CNN is not independent a verified report by The Sunday Times.

“The charitable donations received from Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim were immediately forwarded to one of the prince’s charitable organizations that conducted proper management and assured us that all proper processes were being followed,” Clarence House said in a statement to CNN.

A royal source tells CNN that they dispute many details in a Sunday Times report. A royal source said that he did not dispute the fact of charitable donations and stated that all the correct processes were followed from what they saw, from more than ten years ago. They add that the report contained several errors and their lawyers were involved.

The Sunday Times once reported that Sheikh Hamad had given Prince Charles a million euros, allegedly tucked into bags from the luxury London department store Fortnum and Mason.

On another occasion, Prince Charles accepted a bag with one million euros during a private one-on-one meeting at Clarence House in 2015, reports the Sunday Times.

The Sunday Times reports that payments have been made to the accounts of the Prince of Wales Charitable Fund (PWCF), an entity that finances the prince’s private projects and his rural estate in Scotland.

There is no suggestion that the payments were illegal.
